FINLAND – HELSINKI SPB-Tours private shore excursions 2012

The tour order and exact route/itinerary may vary depending upon where the vessel will dock and local conditions 

Tour 1: Panoramic Helsinki 9.00am-12.00pm (3 hr)  

Number of people in a group: min. 16 pax - max. 32 pax

Experience by vehicle a panoramic glimpse of Helsinki, “the White City of the North”. You will begin by heading to the city center, passing the Uspenski Cathedral on the way, for a photo-stop at Senate Square, where one can see the elegant Lutheran Church, and the interesting mix of East, West, and simply Finnish influences pervading the city. You will drive down Mannerheim Street, the main boulevard of the city, passing the City Hall, Parliament House, and Finlandia Hall, the convention center designed by famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. Continuing on you will see the Olympic Stadium, used for the 1952 Olympic games and the Opera House.  You will stop at Sibelius Park for a unique photo opportunity of the monument of 527 steel pipes honoring the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, before continuing on to the famous Rock Church, a one-of-a-kind modern-day structure build entirely into bedrock and quarried stone. Finally head to Central Station - the heart of Helsinki - where the tour will end. You will have the option to stay in the city for dinner or shopping or to return to the ship.

Notes: Entry to the Rock Church cannot be guaranteed due to occasional Religious services and other private events. The order of the tour may vary.

Pupils/students (7-27 year old) get additional 10% discount.

Tour 2: Helsinki + Porvoo 09.00am-04.00pm (7 hr)

See all of the highlights from the Helsinki Tour by bus before heading to the old town of Porvoo, the second-oldest town in Finland, dating back to 1346. Starting in Helsinki you will see the shipyards, Embassy Park, the Market Square, the Uspenski Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, and have a brief stop at the Senate Square for a chance to shop at the open-air Market. Continue on to see the Opera House (build in 1993), Finlandia Hall, the National Museum, Parliament House, and Kiasma, the Contemporary Art Museum designed by famous American architect Steven Holl. You will then head east toward Sipoo to see one of the oldest  all-granite churches in Finland, built in the 15th century, before continuing on to Porvoo. There will be time for a lunch at a nice place while enjoying the charm and ambience of this old town. Afterwards you will explore the town with the guide with the chance to see the cobblestone streets and the Old Bridge, which offers a magnificent view of the town and its medieval cathedral. You will return to Helsinki to see the Rock Chuch, carved entirely into bedrock, before returning to the ship.
